VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) - Allan Ray scored 23 points and Randy Foye added 21 as Villanova beat Virginia 73-63 in a second round NIT game Saturday.

The Wildcats (18-16), who are making their fifth straight appearance in the NIT, have won four of their last five games and will play the winner of the Rutgers-West Virginia game in the NIT quarterfinals.

Virginia (18-13) was led by Gary Forbes, who scored 19 points off the bench and Elton Brown, who scored all 13 of his points in the second half. The Cavaliers were playing in their fourth NIT in five years; they have not advanced past the second round.

Villanova led by as many as 17.

The Cavaliers, who made 13 3-point field goals in their first round win over George Washington, were only 1-of-10 from 3-point range Saturday and did not make a 3-pointer until Derrick Byars hit one at the 5:15 mark to cut Villanova's lead to 56-50.

The Cavaliers pulled with four points, 63-59, with 1:30 remaining but Foye hit a pull-up jumper at the other end. Will Sheridan blocked a shot and came up with a steal in the final minute and Foye made 6-of-8 free throws down the stretch.
