Villanova lost its opening game in the BIG EAST Championship (regardless of round) for the first time since 2003 with today's loss to Marquette. The Wildcats had won at least one game in the conference tournament in each of the last six years. Villanova is now 31-29 (.517) all-time in its 30 tournament appearances. The team is 18-15 (.545) overall in tournament action when playing as one of the top four seeds.

Over the past two seasons Villanova and Marquette have played each other six times, including two regular season meetings in both 2008-09 and 2009-10, in addition to two straight contests in the quarterfinal round of the BIG EAST Championship. The Wildcats own a 4-2 edge in these six meetings. Including today's contest, the last four games between the teams have been decided by a total of just nine points.

With 10 points in today's game, senior guard Scottie Reynolds increased his career total to 2,194 points. He is 49 points away from tying Kerry Kittles (1992-96) for the program's all-time career scoring mark with 2,243 points. Reynolds is currently second all-time in scoring at Villanova. His 10 points today against Marquette also increased his season total to 574 points. That ranks 25th in school history for a single season and is six points behind the 580 that were scored by Alvin Williams during the 1996-97 campaign.

Junior guard Corey Stokes tied career-high marks in three different categories in today's game. He scored 22 points and made six three-pointers to match highs that he established in a win over Houston Baptist last season on December 14, 2008. Stokes also made eight field goals overall to match his total from an NCAA Tournament second round victory over Siena on March 23, 2008. Stokes finished today's game 8-of-9 from the field and 6-of-7 from three-point range en route to a 22-point effort. In five career games in the BIG EAST Championship, Stokes has averaged 14.6 points per game. His overall career scoring average is 8.4 points per game.

Villanova's top three scorers in today's game (Corey Stokes - 22 points; Corey Fisher - 16 points; Antonio Pena - 14 points) shot a combined 19-of-26 (.731) from the field and 7-of-9 (.778) from three-point range. The rest of the team combined to go 8-of-24 (.333) from the field and 2-of-8 (.250) from three-point range.
