Villanova vs. Connecticut quotes
Head Coach Jay Wright
On the game
"Again a great college game, and fun to be a part of. When you beat a team you have so much respect for and they play so hard, they play like champions. They keep coming at you, no matter what you do, they answer. It makes you feel even better about your team. I think we beat them on a good night. They're great and deserve to be number one and they answered everything we did, we answered everything they did. That's what made it a great game between two outstanding teams. I know they're going to keep getting better and we need to keep getting better because we'll run into each other again."
On the guard/forward play
"Allan (Ray), Randy (Foye), and Mike (Nardi) take a lot of shots but they don't for the ball, they don't ask for shots they want Will (Sheridan) to do it. He is just such a smart player and a team player. We've been working on this and I'm happy it happened tonight. It just shows the quality of a person he is. That he waited tonight, he knew we needed it and he really stepped up."
On the game
"It was just a Big East battle. We came in with confidence, they came in with confidence and we just happened to get the victory."
On scoring a season-high
"I approach every game the same way and we are winning so why change anything? But I definitely need to contribute a little bit more, be more aggressive. In general our team is where we should be and keeps getting better."
On the game
"It's always big when you beat a number one team, especially at home. UConn is a great team, we fought and both teams battled. Just to come away with the victory was awesome. The crowd rushing the floor and everything, it was just a great feeling."
On hitting big shots during the second half Villanova run
"UConn was just giving me shots, Coach Wright was running the right plays for me and my teammates were giving me the ball. It was all part of execution. Once I got it going, I felt like I couldn't miss a shot."
On the second half defense
"We just came out with more intensity and became more aggressive. Coach Wright got on us in the huddle about that. They were playing UConn basketball harder than we were playing Villanova basketball. We went out there and picked up our intensity level. We couldn't let this game slip away."
On the forwards
"I'm happy (with their play). That's what we need Will (Sheridan) and all of the other forwards to do. If guys are going to double team the guards coming off of ball screens and leave Will open, he's going to knock it down or take it to the rim and dunk in your face."
