The longest tenured aide to Steve Lappas, Steve Pinone was promoted to the role of Associate Head Coach in April 2000.

Pinone has been by Lappas? side through all of the success of the last eight seasons. He was an assistant coach for the 1994 National Invitation Tournament champion Wildcats as well as when Villanova captured the Big East Tournament championship in 1995. One of his primary responsibilities is to work with Villanova?s perimeter players and Villanova has consistently remained among the most prolific 3-point shooting teams in the Big East in the Lappas era.

Since coming to the Main Line as a freshman in 1983, Pinone has been a constant contributor to Villanova basketball. He played on the 1985 NCAA Championship squad and joined the staff of former Wildcat coach Rollie Massimino following his graduation in 1987. After serving four years, he joined Lappas? staff at Manhattan College in 1991 and then returned eight months later when Lappas was named head coach at Villanova.

Pinone earned a bachelor?s degree in economics, and master?s degree in secondary education while at Villanova. A native of Wethersfield, Conn., he and his wife Sharon reside in Royersford, Pa. They have two sons, Stephen, who is three years old, and Matthew who was born this past July.
