The longest tenured member of the basketball staff is Joe Jones. Jones begins his sixth season at Villanova in 2002-03.
?I am excited to be reunited with Joe, who started out with us at Hofstra,? said Wright. ?He is a tireless worker and very effective recruiter.?
The relationship between Jones and Wright dates to 1990. As a Villanova assistant coach, Wright came to know Jones when the latter brought his middle school team to the Villanova Basketball Camp of head coach Rollie Massimino. When Jones became the head coach at Comsewogue (N.Y.) High School he remained in touch with Wright, who by this time had accompanied Massimino to UNLV.
When Wright was named head coach at Hofstra in 1994, he tabbed Jones as an assistant coach. Jones then helped Wright replenish the talent supply at Hofstra through his long hours on the recruiting trail. In 1994-95, the Pride attracted the No.1 recruiting class in the America East Conference.
In 1997, Jones arrived at Villanova. He has played a major role in attracting the majority of players, which currently comprise the Wildcats roster. In 1999, Eastern Basketball recognized Jones as one of the top recruiters in the region.
