The 2003-04 campaign marks FredHill's third year as a member of coach Jay Wright's staff and his first in the role of associate head coach.Hill was elevated to his new position onOct. 22 after spending two seasons as an assistant coach.

"FredHill is a complete basketball coach who is playing an important role in what we are building here at Villanova," said Wright in making the announcement. "He is a great teacher and his experience is invaluable to us. He is the senior member of our staff and deserves this recognition."

A Verona, N.J. native, Hill has earned distinction for his efforts in an assistant coaching career that began at his alma mater, Montclair State, in 1981. He was the subject of a 2002 Philadelphia Daily News profile and Lindy's College Basketball tabbed him as the No. 1 assistant coach in the nation that same year. In addition, HoopScoopOnline named him one of the nation's top recruiters.

Hill has been instrumental in landing two of the most lauded recruiting classes in recent memory. While serving on the staff at SetonHall from 1998-2001, Hill helped attract a class that was rated No. 1 in the nation to South Orange, N.J. At Villanova, he played a key role in landing the Class of 2006 (the current sophomore class), a group that was a considered one of the top five classes nationally in the view of the major recruiting publications.

In his current role, Hill is involved in all aspects of Wildcat basketball, including game preparation, recruiting and on-court teaching.

Hill is a 1977 graduate of Verona (N.J.) High School, where he was a two-time captain of the basketball team. At Montclair State College, he was an all-conference guard as a senior on a squad that reached the NCAA Division III Tournament. Hill began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Montclair State (1981-82) before moving on to stints at Lehigh, Rider, Marquette and Maine.

In 1991, Hill returned to his roots in northern New Jersey when he was hired at Fairleigh Dickinson University. He served seven years with the Knights, the last three in the capacity of associate head coach. Tommy Amaker hired Hill at Seton Hall in 1998 and Hill was a part of the staff that guided the Pirates to a Sweet 16 appearance in the 2000 NCAA Tournament.

Hill, 44, comes to coaching naturally. His father, Fred Hill Sr., is the longtime head baseball coach at Rutgers University. Brian Hill, Fred's uncle, is a former NBA head coach.
