Former Villanova standout Curtis Sumpter was named to the newly created post of Student-Athlete Development Assistant in August 2012.

Sumpter first came to Villanova in 2002 from Brooklyn (N.Y.) Bishop Loughlin High School as part of one of the most acclaimed recruiting classes in program history. The class also included future All-Americans Randy Foye and Allan Ray along with Jason Fraser. It helped deliver five NCAA Tournament victories in 2005-06.

Sumpter averaged 13.3 ppg in four seasons spanning five years (a torn ACL in his knee caused him to miss all of 2005-06). He was selected second team All-BIG EAST in 2005 and two years later was named to the conference's first team. He completed his Villanova career in 2007 with 1,651 points and 794 rebounds and is among VU's all-time Top 20 in both categories.

As a redshirt senior in 2006-07, Sumpter helped bridge a gap to the next generation of success by helping to lead a young team back to the NCAA Tournament. Among the young players he helped mentor were all five individuals who as starters in 2008-09 helped lead Villanova to the NCAA Final Four.

Following his college career, Sumpter played professionally in Germany and France. In 2011, he was part of the squad that represented the USA at the Pan American Games. It marked the second time he had represented USA Basketball on the international stage, having also done so in 2004 at the U21 World Championship.
