1998 Big East Tournament - March 4-7, 1998
NEW YORK - New York City for the 16th year this season. The "world's most famous arena" has been host of the championship since 1983. All 13 member institutions will participate, with seeding based on regular season finish. The top three seeds will earn byes into the quarterfinal round. The BIG EAST Tournament Champion earns the league's automatic bid to the 64-team NCAA Tournament field. The entire championship is scheduled to be televised by ESPN and espn2 with the schedule to be released at a later date.
College basketball fans interested in attending the 1998 AT&T BIG EAST Men's Basketball Championship at Madison Square Garden (March 4-7) can purchase tickets through the Madison Square Garden Box Office and Ticketmaster, the league announced. The annual postseason tournament has taken place at MSG every year since 1983, the longest run at one site of any Division I conference.
The BIG EAST Championship has been one of the most unpredictable events in sports in recent years, as a different team has won the postseason event each of the last six seasons. Boston College captured the title last year, defeating Villanova, 70-58.
