Gray Team Takes Game 1 of Villanova Fall Classic by 7-1 Score

PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. - In the first game of the team's intra-squad Villanova Fall Classic, the Gray team defeated the Blue squad by a score of 7-1. Freshman Kyle Helisek was the winning pitcher, going five scoreless innings and allowing just one hit on a bunt single in the fifth inning.

In the winning effort for assistant coach Jim Carone's team, freshmen Kevin Stephens and Scott Buckwalter had two hits apiece. Buckwalter had a triple and three-run home run to finish with four RBI and Stephens drove in the team's other three runs.

Freshman Kevin Wager logged two innings out of the bullpen and allowed just an unearned run.

The losing pitcher for the Blue team was freshman Kyle McMyne, who surrendered three runs, of which one was earned. He was relieved by sophomore Mike Francisco, who pitched two scoreless innings. Freshman Julian Diaz pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief of senior Mike Mayer, who was charged with four runs in 2 2/3 innings.

The Fall Classic continued with the second game on Wednesday afternoon, with the Gray team being the home squad. Sophomore Chris Pack takes the hill with the Gray squad looking to clinch the series and will be opposed by junior Brian Streilein.
