Annual Scout Day Event to be Held on Saturday at Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth

Oct. 4, 2007

Villanova Baseball Preseason Prospectus

VILLANOVA, Pa.-- One of the highlights of the fall baseball season comes around again this Saturday when the Villanova baseball team hosts its annual Scout Day event at the Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth. The Wildcats invite all professional scouts and any alumni in the area to join the team beginning at 10 a.m. for Saturday's workout and intra-squad game.

The baseball team's workout on Saturday will begin with stretching and running 60's, followed by batting practice on the field and a defensive workout and intra-squad game. In the intra-squad game, the first two pitchers will do a two-minute stolen base and hit-and-run drill before facing live hitters. After the first two pitchers, the rest will face live hitters with no two-minute situation.

Villanova's annual Scout Day event allows pro scouts to formulate a plan for the spring season with regards to following potential Major League draft prospects on the team. The Wildcats have had at least one player chosen in the MLB First-Year Player Draft each year since the arrival of seventh-year head coach Joe Godri in 2002.

Last season, Villanova qualified for the postseason BIG EAST Tournament for the first time in 10 years and defeated perennial league power Notre Dame in its second playoff game in Brooklyn, N.Y. The 2008 Wildcats return 25 letterwinners from that team, including 13 position players and 12 pitchers. The team also has seven newcomers that will be expected to make an immediate impact on the team.

The Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth is located just 15 minutes from campus in Plymouth Meeting, Pa. Directions to the field are available by clicking here.
