VILLANOVA, PA - On Tuesday, June 5, the American Baseball Coaches Association/ Rawlings All-America Selection Committee announced its 2001 All-East Region Division I Team. Postseason honors continued to roll in for Villanova University senior designated hitter Nick Piantek, as he was named to the All-East second team.

On May 16, Piantek was named to the All-Big East Conference first team, following a senior season that saw him rank among the elite power hitters in the Big East in a number of offensive categories.

A four-year starter for Villanova, Piantek led the team in nearly every offensive category this season. He finished the year batting .342 (64-for-187) with 35 runs scored, 16 doubles, two triples, seven home runs, 105 total bases and 47 RBI. Piantek was tops on the Wildcat team in doubles, triples, home runs, total bases, RBI, and slugging (.561). In 26 Big East games in 2001, he hit .330 (31-for-94) with seven doubles, one triple, four home runs and 23 RBI.

Ending the season on a five-game winning streak, the Wildcats finished the season with a 25-25-1 overall record and a 10-16 mark in the Big East.
