Comeback Bid Falls Short as Wildcats Edged By Xavier, 7-6
Villanova (14-19, 2-3 BIG EAST) scored six unanswered runs in the third and fourth innings but neither team scored again after that as the Wildcats fell by a 7-6 final to Xavier (10-29, 1-7 BIG EAST) in the middle game of a three-game series at the Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth on Saturday afternoon. Villanova faced a 7-0 deficit after the top half of the third inning and nearly came all the way back before the rally stalled in the middle and later innings.
Retamar's Double in Eighth Inning Lifts Wildcats Over Xavier, 4-3
Sophomore catcher Zander Retamar (Boca Raton, Fla.) drove in the game-winning run with a two-out double in the bottom of the eighth inning and Villanova (14-18, 2-2 BIG EAST) won the opening game of a three-game series by a 4-3 count over Xavier (9-28, 0-7 BIG EAST) at the Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth on Friday afternoon. After overcoming a 2-0 deficit earlier in the game, the Wildcats snapped a 3-3 tie with Retamar's second hit of the game.
Wildcats Fall to Rider, 6-2, in Liberty Bell Classic Final
In the championship game of the Liberty Bell Classic on Wednesday night, Villanova (13-18) was held scoreless from the second inning on in a 6-2 loss to Rider (14-15) at Citizens Bank Park. Sophomore center fielder Donovan May (Newark, Del.) and junior shortstop Eric Lowe (Arlington Heights, Ill.) had two hits apiece, but the Wildcats struck out 14 times and fell to 4-6 all-time in the title game of the local tournament.
Baseball Team Vies For Liberty Bell Championship Tonight at Citizens Bank Park
The championship game of the Liberty Bell Classic is on tap for Wednesday evening, as Villanova (13-17) will face Rider (13-15) at Citizens Bank Park with the tournament title on the line. This is the second time in three years that the Wildcats have reached the championship game of the local tournament. Villanova is looking to win its fifth outright Liberty Bell Classic title and its sixth championship overall in the tournament.

Todd Czinege Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Sophomore second baseman Todd Czinege (Overland Park, Kan.) was named to the weekly BIG EAST Honor Roll on Monday afternoon, marking the second time this season he has garnered recognition from the conference. Czinege batted .333 (6-18) over four games last week and recorded the 100th hit of his career.
Wildcats Tie Single-Game Doubles Record in 6-5 Win Over Georgetown
Sophomore second baseman Todd Czinege (Overland Park, Kan.) doubled in each of his first three plate appearances and Villanova (13-17, 1-2 BIG EAST) salvaged a three-game series against Georgetown (16-15, 3-3 BIG EAST) with a 6-5 victory in the finale at the Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth on Sunday afternoon. Czinege and junior left fielder Adam Goss (Bellaire, Texas) contributed three hits apiece and the Wildcats tied a school record with eight doubles in the game.

Two runs in the top of the ninth inning accounted for the difference in a back-and-forth game as Villanova (12-17, 0-2 BIG EAST) fell to Georgetown (16-14, 3-2 BIG EAST) by a final score of 6-4 at the Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth on Saturday afternoon. The decisive runs in the ninth inning came after the Wildcats had rallied to tie the game with two runs in the bottom of the eighth.
