Wildcats Fall to Notre Dame, 8-1, in Second Game of Tournament
In its second game of the day against a former BIG EAST rival, Villanova (1-3) came up with 11 hits in a solid offensive effort despite falling to Notre Dame (5-1) by a final score of 8-1 at Nelson Wolff Stadium on Friday afternoon. Three different players had multi-hit games for the Wildcats, who outhit the Fighting Irish but stranded 10 runners on base. Earlier in the day, Villanova came up with a ninth-inning run to secure a 4-3 win over Northwestern.

Junior third baseman Kevin Jewitt (West Chester, Pa.) drove in the eventual game-winning run with a one-out double in the top of the ninth inning and Villanova (1-2) tallied its first win of the season with a 4-3 triumph over Northwestern (0-4) at Nelson Wolff Stadium on Friday afternoon. Later in the day, the Wildcats were scheduled to take on Notre Dame in their second game of the day.
Baseball Heads to San Antonio For Irish Alamo Invitational This Weekend
Even though Villanova traveled several hundred miles to the south for the opening weekend of the 2015 season, it still wound up having a game cancelled due to extremely cold weather in Raleigh, N.C. last week. A more temperate environment should greet the Wildcats for week two of the baseball season, as the team heads to San Antonio, Texas to compete in the Irish Alamo Invitational this weekend.

Junior first baseman Max Beermann (Tampa, Fla.) and sophomore right fielder Donovan May (Newark, Del.) had two hits apiece but a dozen stranded runners and a pair of unearned runs proved to be costly as Villanova (0-2) dropped a 5-2 decision to Appalachian State (1-1) at Doak Field on Saturday afternoon. The teams were playing in a neutral-site contest at North Carolina State and the Mountaineers jumped out to a 4-0 lead after five innings before narrowly holding off several Wildcats comeback bids.

In the 150th season opener in program history, Villanova (0-1) began the 2015 campaign with a 14-5 loss to North Carolina State (1-0) at Doak Field on Friday afternoon.
