Czinege Named Big 5 Player of the Week; Doty On BIG EAST Honor Roll
Senior Todd Czinege (Overland Park, Kan.) and junior Ryan Doty (Rye, N.Y.) both earned honors for their weekly performances. Czinege was named the Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week, as Doty was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
Wildcats Drop Final Series Against Creighton, 2-1
A replay of Friday night’s game occurred as Creighton (18-16, 8-1 BIG EAST) won the game in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, runners on the corners, and a weak dribbler to the short stop, lifted the Jays past the Wildcats (8-23, 2-4 BIG EAST) at TD Ameritrade Park on Sunday afternoon. With their win today, Creighton swept the series after two very close walk off wins.
Second Game of Series Gets Away as Wildcats Fall to Creighton, 11-2
Senior starting pitcher Hunter Schryver (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) struck out nine and carried a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning before Villanova (8-22, 2-3 BIG EAST) eventually fell to Creighton (17-16, 7-1 BIG EAST) by a final score of 11-2 in the second game of this weekend’s series at TD Ameritrade Park on Saturday night. Schryver (3-5, 2.54 ERA) wound up going six-plus and being charged with two earned runs, while also reaching career milestones for strikeouts and innings pitched in a sharp overall effort.
Infield Single in Ninth Lifts Creighton over Wildcats, 6-5
A weak dribbler past the mound with two outs and runners at the corners in the bottom of the ninth inning turned into an infield hit and was the difference in a close game as Villanova (8-21, 2-2 BIG EAST) narrowly lost the opener of a three-game series to Creighton (16-16, 6-1 BIG EAST) at TD Ameritrade Park on Friday night. The host Bluejays tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning before winning the game in their final turn at the plate.
Weekend Preview: Villanova Heads to Creighton For First Conference Road Series
The Villanova baseball team will travel to Omaha, Neb. to take on the Creighton Bluejays in BIG EAST conference play. The Blujays' stadium is the home of the College World Series at the TD Ameritrade Park. Villanova currently sits third in conference standings, while Creighton is standing at the one spot.
Wildcats Blast Past Wagner in Tenth Inning to Secure 8-4 Win
Senior second baseman Todd Czinege (Overland Park, Kan.) drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the tenth inning to edge the Wagner Seahawks (10-18) 8-4 at the Richmond County Bank Ballpark in Staten Island, N.Y. on Tuesday night. With the field overlooking the beautiful scenic skyline of New York, the Wildcats moved to 8-20 on the season.
Donovan May and Jonathan Rosero Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Senior Donovan May (Newark, Del.) and sophomore Jonathan Rosero (Middle Village, N.Y.) were named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll as announced by the conference office this afternoon. Rosero was also named the Co-Philadelphia Big 5 Pitcher of the Week as well.
Comeback Bid Falls Short in 6-3 Loss to George Washington
Three straight extra-base hits to open the bottom of the seventh inning cut into a five-run deficit but the late rally attempt came up short as Villanova (7-20) fell by a final score of 6-3 to George Washington (18-18) at the Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth on Saturday afternoon. Eight of the nine hitters in the lineup reached base safely at least once in the game, as the Wildcats outhit the Colonials by a 10-8 margin.
