Krawiec Named Midwest League Player of the Week for Second Time of Season
May 24, 2001 VILLANOVA, PA - For the second time of the 2001 season, former Villanova baseball standout and current Lansing Lugnuts' left-handed pitcher Aaron Krawiec was named Midwest League Player of the Week. Starting in two games this past week, Krawiec went 1-0 with a 0.61 ERA. He pitched 14 innings, allowing just 11 hits and one earned run while striking out 14. Krawiec was previously named player of the week on April 30th when the Chicago Cubs Class A "farmhand" struck out 17 batters in a game. For the season, Krawiec is currently 2-3 with a 5.44 ERA. In 46.1 innings on the mound, he has allowed just 34 runs (28 earned) on 53 hits, striking out 59 and walking only 15.
Following a stellar junior campaign at Villanova in 2000 that saw him garner All-Big East second team accolades, Krawiec was drafted in the third round of the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft, 73rd overall, by the Chicago Cubs. Pitching for the Class A short-season Eugene Emeralds in his first professional season in 2000, Krawiec finished second in the league in strikeouts and fifth in ERA.
