BETHESDA, MD. - Villanova and Georgetown were tied at 6-6 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning on Saturday night at Shirley Povich Field in Bethesda, Md., when the rain and lightning came and caused the remainder of the game to be postponed until Monday. The game will be picked up where it ended (6-6, B7th), beginning at 11:30 a.m., on Monday, May 17th. The two team's will then play a doubleheader, with game one being seven innings and game two being nine.

Georgetown jumped on Villanova starter Nick Allen in the bottom of the first inning, scoring three runs on four base hits to take the early 3-0 lead. Catcher Mike Lombardi knocked in the Hoyas' first run of the inning with an RBI single. An RBI double by rightfielder Andrew Cleary extended the Georgetown advantage to 2-0. Before the inning was over, the Hoyas would add one more run as Cleary scampered home on passed ball to give Georgetown a three-run lead.

In the top of the second inning, the Wildcats rallied with two runs of their own to cut the lead to 3-2. Leftfielder Brian Newbold led the inning off with a walk, and first baseman Adrian Schau followed with a towering two-run home run to straight-away centerfield off of Hoyas' starter Warren Sizemore. The home run was Schau's fourth of the season and second in the last three games.

Villanova took its first lead of the contest in the top of the third inning, scoring three times to open up a 5-3 lead. With runners at the corners and no outs, third baseman Angelo Petracca dropped down a bunt bringing home second baseman Mark Cardillo with the tying run. The `Cats went ahead for the first time, 4-3, on an RBI triple by designated hitter Danny Poydenis and extended that lead to 5-3 later in the inning on an RBI single by Newbold.

After easy innings in the second and third for Allen, the junior ran into trouble in the bottom of the fourth. The bases were empty with two outs when the Hoyas put together five straight hits leading to three runs and a 6-5 Georgetown lead. An RBI double by centerfielder Jim Supple brought the Hoyas within one run at 5-4. Designated hitter Billy Quinn gave Georgetown back the lead at 6-5 with a two-run single up the middle.

In the top of the seventh inning, Villanova fought back to tie the game at 6-6. The Wildcats had the bases loaded with no outs when Newbold recorded an RBI fielder's choice to third, plating centerfielder Kris Molloy with the game-tying run.

The game was tied at 6-6 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning when the rain came and washed out the remainder of the contest.
