`Nova Baseball Travels to West Virginia for Final Run at Big East Tournament Berth
May 11, 2000 PHILADELPHIA, PA.--- With a win over St. John's last Sunday at Shea Stadium, the Villanova baseball team kept its dreams of a Big East Conference Tournament berth alive. The Wildcats' last chance for a tournament push will come in Morgantown, W.V. this weekend. Villanova will meet West Virginia University at Hawley Field, in a doubleheader on Friday, May 12, with the first game beginning at 4:00 p.m., and game two starting at 7:00 p.m. The two teams will take the field again on Saturday, May 13, playing a single game at 12:00 p.m.
The Wildcats enter the weekend with a 24-23 overall record and an 8-12 mark in Big East Conference play. The Mountaineers come into the series with an overall record of 22-28, and a 7-12 record in conference action.
Last season, the two teams met in a three-game series on May 8-9, at Richie Ashburn Field in Philadelphia. West Virginia took the first two games of the series by the scores of 14-7 and 4-3. The Wildcats rallied in the final game to defeat the Mountaineers 8-7 in 10 innings on a game-winning three-run home run by first baseman Rob Cafiero.
