Villanova to Meet St. John's in Crucial Three-Game Series at Shea Stadium
May 3, 2000 Complete Game Release in PDF Format VILLANOVA, Pa. --- On May 6-7, the Villanova baseball team will play St. John's University in a crucial Big East Conference three-game series at Shea Stadium, home of Major League Baseball's New York Mets. The Wildcats and Red Storm are scheduled to meet in a single game on Saturday, May 6, at 3:00 p.m., and a doubleheader on Sunday, May 7, at 12:00 p.m.
Both Villanova and St. John's are battling for one of the final spots in the Big East Tournament, to be held on May 17-20 at Somerset Ballpark in Bridgewater, N.J. The top six teams in the Big East qualify for the tournament. The Wildcats are currently in eighth place in the Big East with a conference mark of 7-10, while the Red Storm stand in ninth at 6-11. Villanova is 23-20 overall on the season, while St. John's holds a 23-18 overall mark.
In 1999, the Wildcats swept the season series from the Red Storm two games to none. On March 28,1999, at Richie Ashburn Field in Philadelphia, Villanova defeated St. John's 1-0 in a ten inning game one marathon, and 6-5 in the decisive game two. The `Cats currently hold a three-game winning streak versus the Red Storm.
