LANSING, MICHIGAN - On Sunday, April 29, former Villanova baseball star Aaron Krawiec pitched his best game at the professional ranks, striking out 17 batters in leading the Chicago Cubs Class A affiliate, the Lansing Lugnuts, to a 2-0 victory over the South Bend Silver Hawks. In his fourth start of the 2001 season, the lefty picked up his first win of the year. Krawiec pitched eight shutout innings, allowing just two hits and no walks while striking out 17. He struck out 14 of 18 batters to open the game and had a no hitter through six and one-third innings. Krawiec's outstanding Sunday performance earned him Midwest League Pitcher of the Week Honors.

Following an outstanding junior season at Villanova in 2000 that saw him earn All-Big East second team honors, Krawiec was drafted in the third round of the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft, 73rd overall, by the Chicago Cubs. Playing his first professional season (in 2000) for the Class A short season Eugene Emeralds, he finished second in the league in strikeouts and fifth in ERA.

Thus far in the 2001 season, Krawiec is 1-2 with a 4.81 ERA in four starts for the Lansing Lugnuts. In 24.1 innings pitched, he has allowed 28 hits and 19 runs (13 earned), striking out 34 and walking only 10.
