VILLANOVA, Pa. - The start of BIG EAST play is on tap for this weekend and Villanova (13-9, 0-0 BIG EAST) will host St. John's (11-9, 0-0 BIG EAST) for a three-game series at the Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth. The series opener is set for Friday afternoon at 3:15 p.m., while the teams will also play on Saturday (1:15 p.m.) and Sunday (12:15 p.m.) afternoons.
Entering the start of conference play the Wildcats have a 13-9 record and have established themselves as one of the top offensive teams in the BIG EAST. Villanova leads the league in hits with 252 and doubles with 49, while also tying for the most triples (nine) and sacrifice flies (14) among BIG EAST teams.
Individually the Wildcats have three of the top 11 hitters in the conference with junior second baseman Tyler Sciacca (Staten Island, N.Y.), senior outfielder Matt Fleishman (East Northport, N.Y.) and senior third baseman Kevin Wager (Holden, Mo.) all batting .374 or higher. Sciacca leads the BIG EAST with a .459 batting average while Fleishman (.442) is fifth and Wager ranks 11th (.374).
Villanova has announced its pitching rotation for the weekend as sophomore right-hander Pat Young (The Woodlands, Texas) on Friday, freshman right-hander Tyler Radtke (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) on Saturday and junior right-hander Stephen Ostapeck (Sacramento, Calif.) on Sunday in the series finale.
