Baseball's Kandybowicz Named Big East Rookie of the Week

Villanova, Pa.--- On Monday, March 20, Villanova baseball freshman Tom Kandybowicz (Massapequa, N.Y./ Massapequa H.S.) was named the Big East Conference Rookie of the Week after an outstanding week which saw him shut down the University of Pittsburgh for his first collegiate victory.

In his first appearance of the week on Tuesday, March 14, against Philadelphia University, Kandybowicz pitched two no-hit innings striking out one. On Sunday, March 19, he started his first-ever Big East Conference game against the likes of Pittsburgh. Kandybowicz threw eight innings surrendering just one run on five hits, striking out six and walking just one. The victory was the first of his Main Line career.

For the season, Kandybowicz has posted a 1-1 record with a 3.38 ERA. In five appearances on the year, he has registered 16 innings and given up only 10 hits and six earned runs. With his six strikeouts versus the Panthers on Sunday, Kandybowicz now has 12 for the season against only three walks.

Kandybowicz and the `Cats will get back into action on Wednesday, March 22, traveling to Rider University to play the Broncs at 3:00 p.m.
