Villanova Baseball Schedule

VILLANOVA, Pa.--Despite the cold weather and lingering snow on the ground in the region a modified version of the Villanova Baseball Classic will be played this weekend, affording the Wildcats a chance to get three games in without having to interrupt their schedule. Villanova will take on Saint Joseph's, Temple and Niagara in a round-robin schedule at Smithson Field in Merion Station on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Below is the full schedule for the weekend.

Wildcats Fall in Slugfest to Saint Joseph's, 15-10
Both teams came out swinging and eventually combined for 25 runs and 25 hits as Villanova (3-10) lost to Saint Joseph's (6-10) by a final score of 15-10 at Smithson Field on Tuesday afternoon. Freshman first baseman Kevin Jewitt (Wes t Chester, Pa.) had three doubles and two runs batted in for the Wildcats, who matched a season high with their 12 hits.

Wildcats Edged By Temple, 7-6
In a back-and-forth game the tables turned for the final time in the top of the eighth inning and Villanova (11-33) came up just short with a late rally as Temple (17-23) held on for a 7-6 victory against the Wildcats at the Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth on Tuesday afternoon. Senior shortstop Tyler Sciacca (Staten Island, N.Y.) hit a three-run double which gave Villanova the lead in a five-run sixth inning but the Owls went ahead for good with five runs of their own in the top of the eighth.

Rally `Cats Back in the Habit, Edge Niagara 2-1 for Second Straight Walk-Off Win
Matt Szczur (Erma, N.J.) singled through the right side to score the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning and Villanova (13-2) walked off with a win in dramatic fashion for the second straight day, this time with a 2-1 victory over Niagara (4-14) on Friday afternoon at the Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth. The Wildcats were down to their last strike with two outs and nobody on in the bottom of the ninth before storming back with big hits from Szczur and Paul Rambaud (Chicago, Ill.).

Villanova will be the home team for its games against Temple and Niagara and will be in the first base dugout for those contests. On Friday afternoon the Wildcats will be the visiting team versus the Hawks and will occupy the third base dugout. Live stats will be available for all three games and the links will be posted on the baseball schedule page prior to game time.

The schedule changes for the weekend were announced as the Wildcats are wrapping up their Spring Break trip to Florida, which included three games at the Snowbird Baseball Classic in Port Charlotte as well as a two-game midweek series at Miami. Even after this weekend's tournament is completed Villanova is scheduled to play 28 of its final 42 games of the 2014 regular season at home at the Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth.
