Donovan May and Chris Haggarty Earn Weekly Awards
Sophomore outfielder Donovan May (Newark, Del.) and senior pitcher Chris Haggarty (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) were recognized by the BIG EAST and the Big Five, respectively, for their performances at the Irish Alamo Invitational in San Antonio last week. May was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll by the conference office on Monday afternoon, while Haggarty was selected as the Big Five Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday morning.
Rally Falls Short in 7-5 Loss to Northwestern
A four-run sixth inning nearly erased what had once been a 6-0 deficit but ultimately the comeback bid fell short as Villanova (1-5) lost by a final count of 7-5 to Northwestern (1-6) in the consolation game of the Irish Alamo Invitational on Sunday afternoon. After pulling to within one run in the sixth inning and putting the potential tying run on base in the bottom of the seventh, the Wildcats were held at bay in the final three innings.
Middle Innings Prove Costly as Wildcats Downed by Incarnate Word, 7-3
A close game through the first three innings started to slip away over the next three frames and Villanova (1-4) lost a 7-3 decision to Incarnate Word (4-3) at Nelson Wolff Stadium on Saturday evening. The loss relegates the Wildcats to Sunday morning's consolation game of the Irish Alamo Invitational. Villanova will face Northwestern at 11:30 a.m. Eastern time and the game will be played at Sullivan Field on the Incarnate Word campus.
Wildcats Fall to Notre Dame, 8-1, in Second Game of Tournament
In its second game of the day against a former BIG EAST rival, Villanova (1-3) came up with 11 hits in a solid offensive effort despite falling to Notre Dame (5-1) by a final score of 8-1 at Nelson Wolff Stadium on Friday afternoon. Three different players had multi-hit games for the Wildcats, who outhit the Fighting Irish but stranded 10 runners on base. Earlier in the day, Villanova came up with a ninth-inning run to secure a 4-3 win over Northwestern.

Jewitt's Late Double Lifts Wildcats Over Northwestern, 4-3
Junior third baseman Kevin Jewitt (West Chester, Pa.) drove in the eventual game-winning run with a one-out double in the top of the ninth inning and Villanova (1-2) tallied its first win of the season with a 4-3 triumph over Northwestern (0-4) at Nelson Wolff Stadium on Friday afternoon. Later in the day, the Wildcats were scheduled to take on Notre Dame in their second game of the day.
Baseball Heads to San Antonio For Irish Alamo Invitational This Weekend
Even though Villanova traveled several hundred miles to the south for the opening weekend of the 2015 season, it still wound up having a game cancelled due to extremely cold weather in Raleigh, N.C. last week. A more temperate environment should greet the Wildcats for week two of the baseball season, as the team heads to San Antonio, Texas to compete in the Irish Alamo Invitational this weekend.
