VILLANOVA, Pa.--Due to the threat of severe weather in the Virginia Beach area on Friday afternoon the schedule for the Spartan Baseball Classic at Norfolk State has been modified. Villanova will now play both Buffalo and Quinnipiac on Saturday, followed by its regularly scheduled game against tournament host Norfolk State on Sunday afternoon.
Saturday's game against Buffalo has been moved up one hour to 10 a.m. and will be immediately followed by the Wildcats facing Quinnipiac. First pitch of the second game is estimated to be at 2 p.m. but could possibly start as soon as 45 minutes following the opening game of the day. Villanova will still face the Spartans at 2 p.m. on Sunday in the tournament finale.
Although steady rain with a threat of thunderstorms is forecast for Norfolk on Friday, the weather looks clear for the remainder of the weekend. The forecast for both Saturday and Sunday calls for partly sunny skies with highs in the low to mid 60s each day.
Villanova began the 2014 season last weekend at Charleston Southern and also played a Saturday doubleheader. Travel delays that affected the Wildcats last week forced a postponement of the originally scheduled Friday afternoon game versus the Buccaneers.
The last time Villanova played two doubleheaders within the first five games of the season was in 2001.
