PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The scheduled Liberty Bell Classic championship game between Villanova and Delaware at Citizens Bank Park has been cancelled on Wednesday night due to rain. There is currently no planned makeup date for the game, although one may be announced at a later date.

Tonight's cancellation marks the fifth consecutive rainout on a night when the Wildcats had been supposed to play a game at Citizens Bank Park and also leaves the determination of a Liberty Bell Classic champion hanging in the balance. Villanova and the Blue Hens were declared co-champions in 2009 due to a similar series of rainouts.

On the road to this year's championship game the Wildcats defeated Lafayette at home by a score of 5-3 and last week held off La Salle on the road by a final score of 9-7 to return to the championship for the second time in the last three years.

Villanova will now return to action at home this weekend when it hosts BIG EAST-leading Connecticut at the Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth from Friday through Sunday. Game times for the weekend are currently scheduled for 3:15 p.m. on Friday, 1:15 p.m. on Saturday and 12:15 p.m. on Sunday.
