VILLANOVA, Pa.--- In a Big East Conference battle shortened due to inclement weather, the Villanova baseball team defeated Georgetown 11-1 in six and a half innings, on Wednesday, April 1, at McGeehan Field on the campus of Villanova University. With the victory, the Wildcats improved their record to 12-7 overall and 1-3 in the Big East.

Picking up the victory for Villanova was junior Chris Pilato (2-3), who pitched four scoreless, no-hit innings, striking out seven batters while walking only one. Replacing Pilato in the fourth, sophomore Rich Manning hurled the final three innings giving up only one run on four hits to seal the victory.

Leading the Wildcats' offensive attack were junior Pat Kane and senior Rick Welsh. Kane finished the afternoon batting two-for-four with two runs scored and four RBI, all four coming on a fourth inning inside the park grandslam. Welsh also went two-for-four on the day, hitting a three-run homerun and contributing a game-high five RBI.

After playing the University of Pennsylvania in the Liberty Bell Classic at Veteran's Stadium on April 1 at 7 p.m., the Wildcats will resume their schedule on Saturday April 4, as they host Rutgers for a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
