PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. - Redshirt freshman Chris Pack (Hinsdale, Ill.) tossed six strong innings for his first collegiate victory and senior Derek Shunk (Yardley, Pa.) drove in four runs as Villanova (10-15) defeated Coppin State (2-28), 11-2, on Wednesday at the Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth.

The Wildcats scored three runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings to win their second straight game and third in the last four outings. Shunk singled home the first run of the game in the bottom of the first, lined a two-run single in the second inning and added a run-scoring triple in the fourth.

Seniors Dan Terpak (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and Robert Parks (Brick, N.J.) and junior Joe Rosati (Havertown, Pa.) added two hits apiece for Villanova, which had 13 hits for the second straight game and received hits from eight different players.

Pack scattered just four hits and struck out seven in his six innings of work. Just one of the runs charged to his account was earned and he walked just one batter. He was followed by freshman Mike Francisco (Newtown Square, Pa.), junior Michael Mayer (Midland Park, N.J.) and sophomore Kevin Crimmel (Harrisburg, Pa.), who each pitched a scoreless inning.

Harry Williams had three hits and an RBI for the Eagles. He drove in Brandon Alexander with a single in the sixth inning and also pitched the final four innings of the game for Coppin State. Angel Recci singled and scored in the top of the second for the first Eagles run.

Jeremiah Cothiere (1-6) took the loss after giving up eight hits and seven runs (four earned) in four innings of work.

 

 

Villanova plays its first home conference series this weekend against Georgetown. The games will be played on Friday at 3:15 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday beginning at 12:15 p.m.
