April 1, 2008

Recap |  Box Score

The Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth is generally conducive to pitchers and has yielded just 51 home runs in 117 games (0.44 home runs per game; 1 home run every 2.2 games) since its opening in 2003. The Wildcats have hit 23 home runs in their stadium and allowed 28.

The four home runs hit by the two teams in today's game were the most in one game in the park. Villanova's three homers were also the most by one team at the field. There have been only five instances of a team having a multi-homer game. The only other time the Wildcats had more than one home run in a game at the park was in its inaugural season, when Alan Day and Freddie Thon homered in a 6-3 win over Drexel on April 29, 2003.

The wind was blowing out to right-center field during the game at 10-20 mph.

Villanova is 70-46-1 (.603) all-time at their home venue, including 5-1 (.833) this season.

The last Wildcat with two home runs in one game was Jeremy Hunt, who hit two long balls at Lehigh on April 11, 2006.

Cotter now leads Villanova in batting average (.317) and extra-base hits (11) this season and is tied for the lead with four home runs. He also has hit seven doubles and has a .432 on-base percentage for the year.

The Wildcats defeated La Salle 13-9 earlier this season at Hank DeVincent Field in Philadelphia. The teams will meet again at the Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth on April 15 at 3:15 p.m.

Despite allowing the Explorers to tie the game in the top of the ninth inning, Villanova is now 7-0 this season when leading after six innings of play.
