PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. - Junior starting pitcher Kevin Mulvey (Parlin, N.J.) pitched his fourth career complete game and struck out eight batters but Villanova (7-8) was defeated 3-2 on Friday by St. Peter's (2-10) on a cold and windy afternoon at the Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth.

The visiting Peacocks opened the scoring with two outs in the second inning. Andrew Costello doubled home the game's first run and Leo Dandes singled him home to give St. Peter's a 2-0 lead. Paul Schulman singled home the team's final run in the fourth inning, putting the Wildcats three runs down.

Villanova was limited to just four hits on the afternoon and miscues by the Peacocks led to both of the Wildcat runs. Freshman Joe Rosati (Havertown, Pa.) led off the fifth inning as a pinch-hitter and doubled down the left field line. Two wild pitches allowed him to first advance to third and then to score the first Villanova run.

In the eighth inning, sophomore Ryan Arcadia (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) reached on an error with one out and advanced to second on a passed ball. Senior Craig Mirsky (Holland, Pa.) bunted for a single that advanced Arcadia to third, and both players moved up on a throwing error on the same play.

Those two runs were all the Wildcats managed off Chris Innis, who pitched a four-hitter and struck out eight in recording his first victory of the season. Junior Andy Wendle (New London, Pa.) and sophomore Gus Guida (Martinsville, N.J.) each had one hit for Villanova, which also drew three walks and a hit batsman.

After allowing the early runs, Mulvey (2-2, 4.15 ERA) shut down the Peacocks offense. He retired 15 of the last 17 batters he faced and set the side down in order in the sixth, seventh and ninth innings. Mulvey struck out eight and walked just two in his outing, which was his first complete game of the season. He has struck out 26 batters while walking just four in his 26.0 innings pitched this season.

This afternoon's game was the first contest in the Villanova Baseball Bash, which includes local teams Saint Joseph's and Temple in addition to three visiting teams. Also on Friday, Temple defeated Long Island 7-6 and Saint Joseph's was in action against St. Francis (N.Y.). The Wildcats play St. Francis on Saturday at Noon.
