Villanova defeated St. Peter's in walk-off fashion in its home opener on March 15, 2014.

On Retamar: A strong defensive presence behind the plate who was the team’s primary starting catcher for two of his four collegiate seasons … Possessed an accurate throwing arm and received pitches well … Good skill hitter who fit the Villanova offensive system.

Career: Played in 102 games with 78 starts … Batted .212 (46-for-217) during his collegiate career while posting a .310 on-base percentage and a .258 slugging percentage … Had 22 runs scored and 18 RBI while hitting seven doubles and a home run … Drew 25 walks, was hit by a pitch six times and struck out 50 times … Stole two bases in three tries … Laid down 14 sacrifice bunts … Excellent defensive catcher who had a career .981 fielding percentage with 455 putouts, 69 assists and 10 errors in 534 total chances.

2017: Saw action in 10 games with three starts … Went 2-for-11 (.182) at the plate with a solo home run, two walks, three strikeouts and a sacrifice bunt … Made his first start of the season at Penn and went 1-for-3 with a home run and a sacrifice in the game … Also made starts against La Salle and in the second game of a doubleheader versus Seton Hall … Came off the bench and was 1-for-1 at the plate against St. John’s … Had 26 putouts and one assist while playing flawless defense behind the plate.

2014: Saw time in 23 games with 16 starts … Batted .189 (7-for-37) with two runs scored and three runs batted in … Had five walks and nine strikeouts … Was hit by a pitch once and posted a .302 on-base percentage … Started and recorded his first collegiate hit in the second game of the season at Charleston Southern … Went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs in a 16-8 win at Temple … Played flawless defense with 91 putouts and 14 assists behind the plate … Had a season-high 11 putouts against both St. Peter’s and Manhattan; BIG EAST: Played in four conference games with three starts … Went 0-for-6 with two walks and four strikeouts at the plate.

Club Baseball: Played three summer seasons for the South Florida Bandits … As a senior was chosen to play for a summer team that competed in the Big League World Series … Led that team to a state title and the Regionals, where the team was defeated by eventual World Series champion South Carolina in a Regional final game.

Pope John Paul II High School: Earned first team all-district honors at catcher as both a junior and a senior … As a senior was selected to play in the Palm Beach County Senior All-Star Game and also received Perfect Game All-Region honorable mention accolades … Was his team’s captain and MVP as a senior … Presented with the Varsity Baseball Coaches’ Award as a junior … Had a career .314 batting average with a .414 on-base percentage … As a senior threw out 64 percent of would-be base stealers and committed just two passed balls for the season … Played his first two years of high school ball at North Broward Prep and helped lead the team to the state final four as a sophomore … Member of the National Honor Society and as a junior won the Honors Analytical Geometry and Trigonometry Excellence Award.
