Baseball vs. Delaware State

Villanova defeated Delaware State, 2-1, to win its home opener at the Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth on March 8, 2016.

On Bryson: Three-year member of the team (2014-16) who was signed as a non-drafted free agent following his junior season … Was a trusted left-handed relief option during his collegiate career and emerged as a successful late-inning reliever … Made effective use of both his fastball and a plus breaking ball.

2015: Emerged as a dependable left-handed reliever and logged 17 1/3 innings over 12 appearances during the season … Went 1-0 with two holds and a 2.08 ERA … Allowed 22 hits and six runs (four earned) while walking eight and striking out 13 … Opponents batted .314 against him … Surrendered one home run to 79 batters faced … Stranded seven of 13 inherited runners … Earned his first collegiate win against Rutgers when he pitched 2 1/3 innings without allowing an earned run … Logged at least two innings four times during the year … Gave up just one earned run spanning 12 2/3 innings over his last nine appearances of the season … Pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings with a career-high four strikeouts and just two hits allowed in a win over Saint Joseph’s; BIG EAST: Pitched in three conferences games and allowed one earned run on four hits over 2 1/3 innings … Walked one and struck out two … Opponents were 4-for-11 against him … Pitched a scoreless inning with a walk and a strikeout against Georgetown.

2014: Made three relief appearances and logged 1 1/3 innings … Allowed four hits and six runs (five earned) while walking four and striking out two … Recorded two strikeouts in 2/3 of an inning in a 16-8 win at Temple … Also made appearances against Boston College and Central Michigan.

Noble & Greenough School: Earned three varsity letters playing baseball as a pitcher and two playing football as a defensive end … In baseball was a tri-captain as a senior and batted .500 while earning Boston Globe honorable mention all-star recognition.

Personal: Born 2/19/93 in Cambridge, Mass. … Only child of Chuck and Polly Bryson … Father played football at Brown and was a tight end … Enjoys singing and was a member of his high school’s male a capella group … Also likes to play golf and spend time with friends and family … Chose to attend Villanova for its strong academic programs as well as the opportunity to play Division I baseball … Political Science major.
