Baseball vs. Georgetown (4-11-15)

Villanova hosted Georgetown in the second game of a conference series on April 11, 2015.

On Richardson: Pitched three seasons for Villanova (2014-16) and was tied for sixth in school history in career appearances at the time of his graduation … Originally came to the Wildcats after pitching in parts of two seasons at Santa Ana (Calif.) College, where he made a total of 16 relief appearances in 2012 and 2013 … A reliable relief pitcher for the Wildcats with outstanding off-speed pitches … Worked effectively with a knuckle-curve and other breaking pitches to keep hitters off balance … Attacked at-bats early in the count to generate quick outs.

Villanova Career: Tied for sixth in school history with 70 career appearances despite pitching only three seasons in a Wildcats uniform … Pitched in at least 19 games in all three of his seasons for Villanova, including 51 appearances in his last two years alone … All but six of his appearances for the Wildcats were out of the bullpen … Pitched two innings or more in 25 of his 64 relief appearances, including 11 games where he worked three or more innings in relief … Logged a total of 137.0 innings and was 6-8 with four saves … Allowed 126 hits and held opponents to a .248 batting average against him … Was charged with 76 runs (64 earned) and issued 47 walks while striking out 79 batters … Allowed just three home runs to 582 batters faced (no home runs to 464 batters in his final two years and 51 games pitched).

2015: Named to the Big Five All-Academic Team … Led the team and ranked fifth in the BIG EAST with 27 appearances, all in relief … Tied for the team lead with four victories and wound up 4-0 with two saves and a 3.02 ERA for the year … Held opponents to a .219 batting average against him and gave up just 32 hits over 41 2/3 innings … Faced 168 batters and did not allow a home run … Gave up 17 runs (14 earned) with 15 walks and 27 strikeouts … Nine of his relief outings were stints of two innings or longer, including going at least three innings on five occasions … Pitched four scoreless innings with just a hit and a walk allowed against Bryant to record his first win in a Villanova uniform … Gave up just one hit over a season-high five scoreless innings against La Salle to earn a win … Registered the final out against North Dakota State to pick up his first save of the season … Allowed just one earned run over 14 2/3 innings in a span of seven appearances from April 4-24 … Recorded wins in consecutive outings to begin that stretch; BIG EAST: Appeared in 10 conference games and registered one save to go along with a 2.93 ERA … Worked 15 1/3 innings and allowed 14 hits, all singles, while holding opponents to a .255 batting average against him … Gave up seven runs (five earned) with five walks and 12 strikeouts … Pitched three scoreless innings to earn a save against Butler … Had a season-high four strikeouts in two scoreless innings against Xavier … Worked 3 1/3 scoreless innings and allowed just one hit while striking out two against Georgetown … Made consecutive scoreless appearances versus Creighton to end the season.

2014: Made 19 appearances out of the bullpen and was 0-1 with a 4.66 ERA … Limited opponents to a .243 batting average against him and allowed just 26 hits and five walks over 29.0 innings pitched (1.07 WHIP) … Yielded 15 earned runs and had 25 strikeouts … Gave up three home runs to 118 batters faced … Logged at least two innings in eight of his 19 outings, including three relief appearances of three innings or longer … Allowed just one earned run over 11 2/3 innings in a stretch of six appearances from March 8-27 … Pitched a season-high four scoreless innings against Connecticut during that stretch and also worked 2 2/3 hitless innings with four strikeouts against Niagara … Had a season-high five strikeouts and pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings against Saint Joseph’s; BIG EAST: Appeared in six games versus conference opponents and was 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA in seven innings of work … Allowed seven earned runs on 10 hits while walking none and striking out five … Gave up two home runs … Finished the season by allowing just a run on two hits while striking out two over 2 2/3 innings versus Butler.

Santa Ana College: Pitched for two seasons at Santa Ana College, a member of the highly-competitive California Community College Athletics Association … Appeared in a total of 16 games in relief over two years, compiling a 3-0 record with a 3.74 ERA … Logged 21 2/3 innings and allowed 21 hits and nine earned runs, while walking 11 and striking out 10 … As a sophomore in 2013 pitched in four games and allowed just two hits over five scoreless innings.
