Baseball at Saint Joseph's

Villanova took on local rival Saint Joseph's on March 21, 2017 in Merion Station, Pa.

On De La Espriella: Two-year team member with a terrific work ethic … Played on the left side of the infield and worked hard to earn a role on the team … Demonstrated progress as an offensive performer during his time on the roster.

Career: Played in 20 games with 12 starts in his two seasons on the team … Batted .174 (8-for-46) with one double, two runs scored and one run batted in … Had two walks, one hit by pitch and 16 strikeouts … Stole one base in two tries and had two sacrifice bunts … Recorded 10 putouts, 22 assists and six errors in the field.

2017: Saw action in 19 games with 12 starts … Started 11 times at third base and once at shortstop … Batted .178 (8-for-45) with a .229 on-base percentage … Had a double, two runs scored and one run batted in while drawing two walks and being hit by a pitch once … Struck out 15 times … Stole one base in two tries and had two sacrifice bunts … Had a four-game hitting streak from February 26 through March 5 … Doubled and drove in a run in the last game of that streak against Boston College … Totaled 10 putouts, 22 assists and six errors in the field; BIG EAST: Appeared in two conference games and went 3-for-6 at the plate … Came off the bench to go 2-for-2 at St. John’s, then started at third base the next day and was 1-for-4.
