Friday's Baseball Game Postponed, Game Time Pushed Back on Saturday
Friday's series opener between Villanova (7-11) and Binghamton (4-8) has been postponed due to snow, and there is a chance that the inclement weather could further impact the weekend schedule. The current, tentative schedule for the weekend is below. Further updates will be announced on Saturday morning if that schedule should change.
Big Fifth Inning Propels Wildcats Past Penn, 9-4
Freshman starting pitcher Mike Sgaramella (Florham Park, N.J.) won his third straight start and Villanova (7-11) scored seven runs in the top of the fifth inning of a 9-4 victory over Penn (1-8) at Meiklejohn Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. Junior left fielder Adam Goss (Bellaire, Texas) homered and scored three runs as the Wildcats snapped a three-game losing streak.
Windy Day Makes For Wild Game as Villanova Falls to Philadelphia University, 3-2
An outstretched, and ultimately game-saving, catch by right fielder Robbie Pelaez for the second out in the bottom of the ninth inning was the decisive play in a 3-2 loss for Villanova (6-11) in its home opener against Philadelphia University (3-3) on Tuesday afternoon. A windy day with gusts that howled over 40 miles per hour at times made anything hit in the air an adventure and there were no runs scored by either team after the top of the second inning.
Early Deficit Too Much to Overcome as Wildcats Fall to Wagner, 4-1
A cold day and howling winds made for an unpleasant afternoon for the hitters and Villanova (6-10) fell by a 4-1 margin to Wagner (2-8-1) on Sunday at Smithson Field. The final game of the Big Five Baseball Bash was played on the Saint Joseph's campus due to the wet field conditions in Plymouth Meeting.
Wildcats Drop 6-2 Decision to Niagara in First Game of Big Five Baseball Bash
After both teams had big first innings, Villanova (6-9) was held off the scoreboard the rest of the way in a 6-2 loss to Niagara (2-9) at Hank DeVincent Field on Friday afternoon. The first game of the Big Five Baseball Bash was played on the La Salle campus due to the wet field conditions at the Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth.
Baseball Schedule Changes Announced For Weekend
Due to the current field conditions at the Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth, several schedule changes have been announced for the Wildcats games at this weekend's Big Five Baseball Bash.
