With a threat of rain and damp conditions in the forecast, the first pitch of Friday afternoon's series opener between Villanova (15-25, 3-6 BIG EAST) and Creighton (27-9, 5-1 BIG EAST) has been moved up to a 2:15 p.m. start at the Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth. The remainder of the series is currently set for 2:15 p.m. on Saturday and 1:15 p.m. on Sunday. Any further schedule changes, if necessary, will be announced at a later time.
Wildcats Edged By Rutgers, 6-4, in Matchup of Former Conference Foes
In a seesaw affair that came down to the final pitch, Villanova (15-25) had leads of 2-0 and 4-3 but ultimately fell by a 6-4 final to Rutgers (21-20) at Bainton Field on Wednesday afternoon. Junior right fielder Donovan May (Newark, Del.) had two hits and drove in three runs for the Wildcats in the battle between two former BIG EAST rivals.
Hunter Schryver Makes Third Consecutive Appearance on BIG EAST Honor Roll
Junior starting pitcher Hunter Schryver (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) keeps rolling off one great start after another, and on Monday afternoon he was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for the third consecutive week. Schryver is 2-0 with a 0.84 ERA and just seven hits allowed in 21.0 innings pitched through his first three starts in BIG EAST play.
Minor Schedule Changes Announced For Upcoming Home Games
Two minor changes to the upcoming home baseball schedule were announced on Monday morning. The second game of this weekend's series against Creighton has been moved to a 2:15 p.m. start on Saturday afternoon. In addition, the non-conference home game against Hofstra on Tuesday, May 3 has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled.
Wildcats Rally But Fall in Extra Innings to Seton Hall, 7-6
Despite a four-run rally in the seventh inning which tied the game and forced extra innings, Villanova (15-24, 3-6 BIG EAST) fell by a final score of 7-6 in 10 innings to Seton Hall (29-12, 4-2 BIG EAST) at Owen T. Carroll Field on Sunday afternoon. A one-out single in the bottom of the 10th inning gave the Pirates the narrow victory and a sweep of the three-game series.
Early Burst of Runs Costs Wildcats in 13-8 Loss to Seton Hall
Villanova (15-23, 3-5 BIG EAST) took the lead in each of the first two innings but also gave up 11 runs in the first three frames of an eventual 13-8 loss to Seton Hall (28-12, 3-2 BIG EAST) at Owen T. Carroll Field on Saturday afternoon. Six different players had multi-hit games for the Wildcats, who matched the Pirates with 14 hits on the day.

In a tightly contested game that was well played by both teams, a walk-off single with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning accounted for the end result as Villanova (15-22, 3-4 BIG EAST) lost a 4-3 heartbreaker to Seton Hall (27-12, 2-2 BIG EAST) in the opener of a three-game series at Owen T. Carroll Field on Friday afternoon. Junior starting pitcher Hunter Schryver (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) pitched eight innings of one-hit, shutout ball and the Wildcats led 3-0 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning before the Pirates rallied to tie the game and force extra innings.

After finishing a stretch in which it played 19 of the past 25 games at home, Villanova (15-21, 3-3 BIG EAST) opens a three-game road series at Seton Hall (26-12, 1-2 BIG EAST) on Friday afternoon. The series opener will air live on the BIG EAST Digital Network beginning at 12 p.m. The start time for the game was moved up from its original time to avoid the threat of bad weather later in the evening.
