Seven Wildcats Earn USTFCCCA All-Region Honors
Nov. 13, 2007
NEW ORLEANS, La. - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced today its 2007 Division I All-Region Cross Country teams for all nine regions throughout the country with Villanova claiming a combined seven spots in the Mid-Atlantic Region. The Wildcats boast four men, as well as a trio of women, earning the prestigious honor.
The quartet of men, which includes senior duo Bobby Curtis and Michael Kerrigan, sophomore Bobby Papazian, and freshman Ben Guest, has played a significant role in the success of Villanova's program this fall. Most recently, the Wildcat men secured themselves a trip to Terre Haute, Ind. on Monday, Nov. 19, to compete in the NCAA finals after a thrilling second place victory at the regional meet, as well as clawed their way to a No. 25 NCAA Division I men's cross country ranking. Villanova spent a majority of the season sitting on the cusp of the top-30, breaking through this week after a solid team performance this past Saturday.
The Wildcat women have also received regional recognition with a trio of talented freshmen, including Callie Hogan, Sheila Reid, and Ali Smith. Over the course of this season, this young group has gained valuable experience that will prove useful in the years to come as they continue to compete under the Villanova banner. Despite finishing fifth in the Mid-Atlantic Region at last Saturday's meet, Reid managed to qualify as an individual for the NCAA finals and will join the men's team in the trip out to Indiana next Monday.
The 2007 Division I NCAA Cross Country finals are schedule for Monday, Nov. 19, in Terre Haute, Ind. The men's race is scheduled for noon Eastern time followed by the women's race at 12:55 p.m.
