Villanova's Bobby Curtis Named Athlete of the Week
Oct. 31, 2007
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Villanova's Bobby Curtis has been selected as the USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after clinching a first place victory at the 2007 BIG EAST Cross Country Championships this past weekend in his hometown of Louisville, Ky. Along with claiming the individual title for the second time in his career, the senior set a new course record in the process by posting a 23:08.85 on the E.P. `Tom' Sawyer State Park 8K course. Curtis also captured first place in 2004 when the conference championships were held at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass.
So far this season, Curtis has set three new course records en route to claiming three individual titles. He easily placed first, clocking in at 19:16.50, at his first meet hosted by Haverford College in early September, followed by a first place finish at the highly touted Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University. His efforts at Paul Short provided him with a record-shattering time of 23:39, which led Villanova's squad to an overall first place victory. Curtis wrapped up his trio of titles with the BIG EAST Championship race last weekend.
With more than half of the season behind him, Curtis has his sights set on conquering the upcoming NCAA meets. He already placed an impressive second at the Pre-NCAA Meet hosted by Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Ind. this past month.
