Wildcats Second In Cross Country Action

Three Wildcats placed among the top five runners to lead the Villanova men's cross country squad to a second-place finish in the team competition at the Lafayette Invitational, held Saturday, Sept. 13, 1997, at Lafayette College in Easton, Pa.

Dunn Captures Individual Title

Coulby Dunn (Jr., Greentown, Pa.) started the season in fine style, capturing the individual race in 25:53 to narrowly defeat David Robinson of Lafayette, who finished in 25:56. Scott Tantino (So., North Wales, Pa.) and Dean Smith (So., Baltimore, Md.) werenit far behind Dunn, placing third and fourth, respectively. Tantino ran a time of 26:06, while Smith finished the race in 26:12.

Joseph McNamara (Jr., Granville, N.Y.) also put in a strong performance, placing 22nd in a time of 27:19. Wojciec Szela (Jr., Berwyn, Pa.) finished in the 37th position, registering a mark of 28:00. Both McNamara aile Butler finished 53rd in 28:42.

The Wildcats resume competition on Sept. 27, 1997, at the Penn State Invitational. The Villanova women will also run that day, as they will participate in the Iona Invitational.
