Philadelphia, Pa.--- Traveling across town to Philadelphia on Friday, Nov. 17, the Villanova University men's and women's swimming & diving teams swept La Salle University. The Wildcat men defeated the Explorers by the score of 133-102, while the Villanova women beat La Salle 163-71.

Freshman James Wolczynski led the way for the Wildcat men, posting two individual victories. Wolczynski placed first in both the 1000 yard freestyle (9:54.44) and the 500 yard freestyle (4:43.62). Five other Villanova swimmers also posted individual wins versus La Salle. Sophomore Peter Klimas won the 50 yard freestyle (21.89). Freshman Ryan Costella swam a first place time of 4:26.30 in the 400 yard I.M. Sophomore Justin Buland finished first in the 100 yard backstroke (56.18). Sophomore Adam Walchak won the 100 yard butterfly (53.42). And sophomore Jared Rummel posted a victory in the 100 yard breaststroke (59.68).

In relay competition, the Villanova 200 yard freestyle relay team and the 200 yard medley relay team swam winning times of 1:38.23, and 1:27.78 respectively.

On the diving front, senior diver Brian Mulligan placed second in both the one-meter and three-meter dives. He recorded a score of 308.40 in the one-meter and 306.68 in the three-meter.

In women's swimming action, Villanova swept every race on Friday's slate. Sophomore Andie Scelsi won the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:25.36. Freshman Michelle Diago won the 200 yard freestyle in 1:55.87. Senior Kristen Olson won the 50 yard freestyle in 24.98. Fellow senior Katie Armitage won the 400 yard individual medley in 4:31.74. Freshman Rebecca Koch won the 100 yard butterfly in 59.77. Junior Val Mesplier took the 100 yard freestyle in 54.15. Freshman Moira Durkin won the 100 yard backstroke in 1:01.05. Senior Katherine Volz won the 500 yard freestyle in 5:04.78. And junior Brooke Corby won the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:07.55.

The Wildcat relay teams also swept the meet winning the 200 yard medley relay in 1:52.22, and the 200 yard freestyle relay in 1:49.28.

In women's diving action, Wildcat sophomore Julie Rhines placed second in both the one-meter (234.15) and three-meter (234.15) dives.

Villanova will get back into action on Dec. 1-3, competing in the Princeton Invitational against Princeton, Brown and Tennessee, with daily sessions at 11:00 a.m., and 6:00 p.m.
