Villanova finished up a stellar weekend at the Frank Elm Invite with impressive performances on both Saturday and Sunday. Combined with their finishes on Friday evening, the Wildcats were able to hold onto the lead and end the weekend on top at first place overall. The victory was highlighted by two first-place relay finishes and three individual winners over the last two days of competition.
The women got off to a strong start on the second day of competition as the 200 yard medley relay team of Mikah Schlesinger (Herzliya, Israel), Erin Malone (Sydney, Australia), Fiona Hardie (Hampshire, England) and Kaisla Kollanus (Hyvinkaa, Finland) notched a first-place finish in a time of 1:44.79.
Freshman Kaisla Kollanus recorded two more individual victories in the 100 yard butterfly (54.90) and the 200 yard freestyle (1:50.29). Villanova earned all top places in the 200 yard freestyle as Roxy Tammadge (Durban, South Africa) came in second at 1:50.76 and Sara Jurek (Gilbert, Ariz.) finished third at 1:51.26.
Tammadge registered a third-place finish in the 400 individual medley, touching the wall at 4:22.75. Teammate Leigh Anne Patterson (Cherry Hill, N.J.) finished just behind her in fourth with a time of 4:24.96.
Schlesinger finished out the individual events on Saturday with a third-place finish in the 100 back as she crossed the finish line at 57.68.
Hayley Edwards (Pilesgrove, N.J.), Fiona Hardie and Katrin Heider (Bergisch, Germany) also recorded points for Villanova in the 400 individual medley, 100 yard butterfly and 200 yard freestyle, respectively.
The Wildcats' earned points from two different relay teams that competed in the 800 yard freestyle relay. The squad consisting of Hayley Edwards, Kaisla Kollanus, Roxy Tammadge and Katrin Heider (Bergisch, Germany) got a win with a combined time of 7:26.83. Sara Jurek, Natalie Elphick, Erin Malone and Leigh Anne Patterson finished fourth in 7:38.83.
Roxy Tammadge got the Wildcats off to a strong start Sunday as she shattered the competition in the 1650 yard freestyle. She won first place with a time of 16:31.87, nearly 20 seconds ahead of her next opponent.
The 100 yard freestyle featured four Wildcats in the final heat of competition. Kaisla Kollanus earned a first-place finish with a time of 50.36. Behind her were Katrin Heider (third place), Sara Jurek (fourth place) and Natalie Elphick (seventh place).
Hayley Edwards notched a third-place finish in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:03.06 and Leigh Anne Patterson finished just behind her at fourth in 2:03.52. Lindsey Hagens (Westboro, Mass.) also tabbed points for Villanova as she took fifth in the 200 yard backstroke with a finish in 2:05.17.
In the final event of the weekend, Villanova's 400 yard freestyle relay team consisting of Kaisla Kollanus, Katrin Heider, Natalie Elphick and Sara Jurek snagged the first-place victory in 3:26.39. The Wildcats also notched points in the event two other Villanova squads who finished fourth and eighth in the relay.
The Frank Elm Invite marked the final fall meet for the Wildcats. They will resume competition in January.
