Twelve women and four men from the Villanova swimming teams were named to the 2015 All-BIG EAST Team on Thursday afternoon. The news came via a BIG EAST Conference press release.
Villanova head coach Rick Simpson was named the BIG EAST Women's Coach of the Year, marking his second-straight year garnering the conference honors. Junior Kaisla Kollanus was named the Women's Most Outstanding Swimmer.
The Villanova men' swimming team finished in fourth place at the 2015 BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championships from Ithaca College with a total of 416 points. Xavier won the conference championships with 904 points followed by Georgetown (763) and Seton Hall (690). Providence came in fifth with 220 points.
The Villanova women's swimming team won four more races on Friday evening in Ithaca, N.Y. from the 2015 BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championships to lead with a total of 627.5 points. Georgetown remains in second at 482.5 followed by Xavier (359), Seton Hall (311), Providence (146) and Butler (142). Saturday marks the final day of competition with six events on the slate.
The Villanova men' swimming team remains in fourth place with 287 points after day three at the 2015 BIG EAST Championships in Ithaca, N.Y. with six events on tap for the Saturday finale.
The Villanova women's swimming team won all four events on Thursday night in day two of the BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championships in Ithaca, N.Y. Through six swimming events (three individual and three relays) at the conference championships, the Wildcat women have earned gold in all of them.
After two days at the BIG EAST Championships in Ithaca, N.Y., the Villanova men's swimming team sits in fourth place with 154 points. Xavier leads the event at 327 followed by Georgetown (257) and Seton Hall (203). Providence is currently in fifth with 98 points.
The Villanova women's swimming team took the lead Wednesday night at the 2015 BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championships with two first-place victories in the 800 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay as the squad set a new program record in the latter event.
