Swimming & Diving Announces 2013-14 Schedule

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova men's and women's swimming and diving teams are ready to jump back in the pool for the 2013-14 season. Head coach Rick Simpson announced the schedule Thursday, which features two home meets and two invitationals, and culminates in Villanova hosting the BIG EAST Championships.

"We're very excited about the schedule and matchups we have this year," said Simpson. "We're competing against not only BIG EAST teams, but also against the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12 - we have a lot of meets against great conferences and teams. It's going to be a challenging schedule, but we're looking forward to it."

The Wildcats open 2013 at cross-town rival La Salle on Oct. 23. The women's team defeated the Explorers last year while the men fell to La Salle.

The Wildcats will compete in a quad meet with West Virginia, James Madison and Cincinnati in Morgantown, W.Va., Oct 25 and 26. The men's and women's teams fell to the Mountaineers last season. The teams then travel to Storrs, Conn., for a meet against Connecticut on Nov. 2.

The `Cats will head to the Garden State for three straight meets. Villanova travels first to the RU Aquatic Center for a quad meet against BIG EAST rivals Georgetown and Seton Hall and former BIG EAST member Rutgers. Both Wildcat teams beat the Hoyas and Pirates last season, while the women beat the Scarlet Knights as well.

The Wildcats return to Piscataway, N.J., to compete in the Rutgers Frank Elm Invite on Nov. 22-24. The teams will swim against Rutgers, Army, Columbia, Drexel, Saint Peter's and West Chester during the three-day invitational.

The teams will make their way to Princeton, N.J., for the Big Al Invitational, Villanova's final meet of 2013, from Dec. 6-8.

Villanova travels to NC State in Raleigh, N.C., on Jan. 11 to open the 2014 season. The Wildcats finish the regular season with two home meets. Villanova takes on Penn State on Jan. 17. Providence travels to Villanova for the Wildcats' final meet of the season on Jan. 18.



The Wildcats will host the 2014 BIG EAST Diving Championships Feb. 13-15 in Villanova, Pa. The `Cats play host again the following weekend for the 2014 BIG EAST Swimming Championships in Sewell, N.J., from Feb. 19-22.

The Women's NCAA Championships will be held at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minn., from March 20-22, 2014. The Men's NCAA Championships will be held March 27-29 at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas.
