Swimming and Diving Release 2012-2013 Schedule

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Rick Simpson and the Villanova Wildcats Men's and Women's Swimming/Diving teams are ready to jump back into the pool for the 2012-2013 season as their schedule has been released for the upcoming year. The slate features five home-meets and multiple difficult conference and non-conference match-ups.
The Wildcats will open 2012 with a meet against city-rivals La Salle on Oct. 24th; both the men's and women's teams defeated the Explorers last season. Villanova will be back in action against former Big East match-up West Virginia and the women will also face the 2011 Virginia 529 CAA Champions James Madison at home on Oct. 27th (Homecoming Weekend).
Swimming and Diving will face its first Big East competition in Piscataway, N.J. when they hit the pool against Connecticut, Georgetown and Rutgers. After a week of rest, the Wildcats will swim against in-state foe Penn State at home on Nov. 10th. The Nittany Lion Men finished the season fifth in the Big-10 and Penn State's Women defeated the Wildcats last season. The following weekend, Villanova travels back to Piscataway to participate in the Rutgers Invitational Nov. 16-18th.
Austin, Tex. will host the AT&T USA Swimming Nationals Nov. 29-Dec.1st.
The Wildcats kick off 2013 with a non-scoring scrimmage at Princeton on Jan. 4th. Villanova will swim back at the Pavilion Pool on Jan. 15th when they meet Big East-opponent Seton Hall whose men finished eighth and women finished 10th at the Big East Championships last season. The Villanova Men's Swimming/ Diving team will travel to Providence, R.I. to swim against Big East competition Providence on Jan. 19th. Last season, the Wildcat Men defeated the Friars 136-101.
The team will swim at home against Big East-rivals Pittsburgh on Jan. 25-26th. The Panthers finished above the Wildcats at last year's conference championships. This will be the last home meet of the season and will also be Senior Day.
Rounding out the end of the season, Villanova Women's team will compete at defending A-10 Champions Richmond on Feb. 1st. Both swimming squads will then travel to William and Mary for their final regular-season meet on Feb. 2nd. The Tribe Men's and Women's teams finished 3rd and 4th, respectively, in the 2011 CAA Championships.
The Wildcats will then head into the Big East Championships Feb. 27th-Mar.2nd in Indianapolis, Ind.
Following the Big East Championships are the Women's NCAA Championships on Mar.21-23rd and the Men's NCAA Championships on Mar. 28-30th in Indianapolis, Ind.
