VILLANOVA, Pa. -- Villanova Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving head coach Rick Simpson has announced the addition of a new assistant coach, Ed Pretre, to his staff.
"We are thrilled to have Ed join our staff. Ed replaces Coach Nathan Lavery who made a huge impact on our program," said Simpson. "With his departure, I knew that we wanted to bring in a top-notch replacement. With Ed, we are fortunate to have a coach with extensive experience at all levels. He is a proven stroke coach and technician and a top-notch recruiter. We are thrilled to welcome Ed and his family back to the area and to the Wildcat Swimming Family."
Pretre comes to Villanova from Truman State University where he served as head coach from 2011-2017. He was named Coach of the Year by the New South Conference and in 2016 by the Great Lakes Valley Conference after upsetting then Women's National Champions, Drury, in route to the school's first conference title. This past season under Pretre, seven women swimmers qualified for the NCAA Championships. While at Truman, he has coached 30 All-Americans at the Division II Championships and has had swimmers break 25 school records.
He has also had the opportunity to coach two Big East Champions Kasey Kesses (100 fly) and Shana Longacre (100 breast) during his stint as an assistant coach at Rutgers University. While coaching Longacre, she swam in the NCAA Championships where she earned honorable mention All-America Honors by finishing 15th place in the 100 breaststroke.
Pretre is a 1997 graduate of West Virginia University where he was a letter winner in swimming and also received a Master's in Special Education from New Jersey City University. Pretre and his wife Collette have a son Brayden, and a daughter, Ella Grace.
