INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Villanova earned an eighth place finish at the BIG EAST Championships in the final night of competition in Indianapolis, Ind. The Wildcats featured five individual swimmers in the last few final round events of the meet as well as a 400 yard freestyle relay squad.
Russell Paulson (West Chester, Pa.) got the night started with a 13th place finish in the 1650 yard freestyle with a time of 15:56.56. Teammate Jordan Bickhart (Wyomissing, Pa.) swam in just behind Paulson at 16:11.33 to take home 16th place. Patrick Sullivan also swam in the event and notched 20th overall with a time of 16:42.55.
Kyle Grant (Winnetka, Ill.) earned 16th place in the 200 yard backstroke as he touched the wall at 1:52.14. Ben Smith (Sudbury, Mass.) recorded a time of 1:52.80 in the 200 yard butterfly, finishing 14th place overall.
The Wildcats also swam a seventh place 400 yard freestyle relay team that came in at 3:04.98. The team consisted of Scott Thiede (Bethesda, Md.), Jason Moyer (Coopersburg, Pa.), Ben Smith and Kyle Grant.
Villanova concluded the BIG EAST Championships Saturday night with an eighth place finish. Notre Dame captured the conference title.
