INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Villanova continued their record-breaking streak in day three of competition at the conference championships in Indianapolis, Ind. Erin Malone surpassed another school record in the 100 yard breaststroke, while Kaisla Kollanus and the 400 yard medley relay team shattered two university records of their own.
Malone (Sydney, Australia) racked up major points for the Wildcats in the 100 yard breaststroke as her time of 1:00.77 earned her second place in the finals Friday evening. However, her record breaking time occurred in the preliminary round when she touched the wall at 1:00.75. Laura McGlaughlin (West Chester, Pa.) finished ninth at 1:02.45.
Roxy Tammadge (Durban, South Africa) earned second place in the consolation round (ninth overall) of the 400 yard individual medley with a time of 4:22.38. Teammate Leigh Anne Patterson (Cherry Hill, N.J.) notched 15th in the same event, finishing in 4:22.38.
Freshman Kaisla Kollanus (Hyvinkaa, Finland) also got the opportunity to set a new university record when she finished ninth place in the 100 yard butterfly at 54.39.
Villanova swam three team members in the finals of the 200 yard freestyle. Sara Jurek (Gilbert, Ariz.) notched sixth place as she finished in 1:49.10 and Katrin Heider (Bergisch, Germany) came in right behind Jurek for a seventh-place finish in 1:49.33. Natalie Elphick (Durban, South Africa) swam in the consolation final and took 13th place with a time of 1:51.22.
The Wildcats set yet another school record in the 400 yard medley relay with a new school-best time of 3:41.22. The squad featured Mikah Schlesinger (Herzliya, Israel), Erin Malone, Hayley Edwards (Pilesgrove, N.J.) and Kaisla Kollanus; they would finish fourth overall.
Villanova now sits at fifth place headed into the final day of competition at the conference championships on Saturday.
