INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Villanova men swam another great day in the pool at the BIG EAST Championships Friday evening in Indianapolis, Ind. The team featured three individual swimmers and a 400 yard medley relay team in the evening finals of the conference championships.
Ben Smith (Sudbury, Mass.) earned a 14th place finish in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 50.21. Scott Thiede (Bethesda, Md.) also notched 14th place in the 200 yard freestyle, touching the wall at 1:39.14. Braden Clarke (Chappaqua, N.Y.) was the final individual swimmer for the Wildcats in the evening competition and he finished 16th in the 100 yard backstroke in 51.76.
Villanova also swam a 400 yard medley relay team consisting of Clarke, tony sipala (South Glastonbury, Conn.) Smith and Thiede. The squad came in seventh place with a time of 3:24.54.
The Wildcats ranked eighth at the end of the third day of competition. They will look to move up in the final day of the BIG EAST Championships Saturday evening.
