INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Women's swimming and diving got off to a strong start in the first day of competition at the BIG EAST Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. as they competed in two relays. Villanova broke a school record in the 800 yard freestyle relay for the fourth-consecutive year at the conference championships.
The Wildcats got off to a fast start with a new school record in the 800 yard freestyle relay, crushing a school record for the fourth-straight year at the championships. The relay team featuring Hayley Edward (Pilesgrove, N.J.), Roxy Tammadge (Durban, South Africa), Katrin Heider (Bergisch, Germany) and Kaisla Kollanus (Hyvinkaa, Finland) notched a second-place finish with a new Villanova fastest time of 7:12.73. Edwards, Tammadge and Heider were all on the relay squad that set the school record last year and beat out their time in 2012 by almost two whole seconds.
Villanova continued on and earned sixth place in the 200 yard medley relay. The team of Mikah Schlesinger (Herzliya, Israel), Erin Malone (Sydney, Australia), Fiona Hardie (Hampshire, England) and Natalie Elphick (Durban, South Africa) came in at 1:44.20.
The women finished Wednesday evening's events in sixth place and hope to add more points to their score when they continue competition at the BIG EAST Championships Thursday.
