INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Wildcats began conference championship competition in Indianapolis, Ind. Wednesday evening notching a sixth-place finish in the 200 yard medley relay and broke a school record that dates back to 1997 with a seventh-place finish in the 800 yard freestyle relay.

Villanova came right out of the gate in the 800 yard freestyle relay as the squad of Scott Thiede (Bethesda, Md.), Russell Paulson (West Chester, Pa.), Ben Smith (Sudbury, Mass.) and Jason Moyer (Coopersburg, Pa.) earned seventh overall in the event, while simultaneously beating out a 16-year old school record with a time of 6:42.84.

The men placed sixth overall in the 200 yard medley relay featuring Braden Clarke (Chappaqua, N.Y.), tony sipala (South Glastonbury, Conn.), Ben Smith and Jason Moyer who finished in 1:33.74. The Wildcats finished the evening eighth and will look to move up in the ranks when they head into the second day of competition on Thursday.
