Villanova Divers Conclude Season at BIG EAST Championships

PITTSBURGH, Pa.--The first portion of the BIG EAST Swimming & Diving Championships were held this past weekend at Trees Pool and included competition in the diving events. Villanova had three divers qualify for the BIG EAST Championships and during the weekend senior Amanda DiMarco (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) placed 12th in the finals of the women's 3-meter diving competition.
DiMarco stood in 14th place out of 27 competitors on the 3-meter board after posting a score of 210.75 in the preliminaries on Saturday afternoon. Later in the day she moved up to 12th place with a score of 232.55 in the finals. DiMarco qualified for the BIG EAST Championships all four years of her Wildcats career and her 12th place finish this weekend is a career best on the 3-meter board.
Sophomore Lauren Brown (Schnecksville, Pa.) placed 15th in the 3-meter diving competition and scored 210.70 points in the finals. She was also in 15th place following the preliminaries (206.55) and then improved her score in the finals to maintain her position in the individual standings.
Brown and DiMarco also competed on Friday afternoon in the preliminaries of the 1-meter diving competition. Brown finished in 20th place out of 33 divers with a score of 208.10 and DiMarco came in 27th (184.90).
On the men's side senior J. Paul Suydam (New Brunswick, N.J.) competed on Saturday afternoon in the preliminaries of the 1-meter diving event. He finished in 21st place in the competition and registered a score of 158.75 points.
