The Wildcats fell to William and Mary Saturday afternoon in Williamsburg, Va. 192-70. The meet featured two individual first-place finishers in the non-conference event.
Russell Paulson (West Chester, Pa.) started off for the Wildcats with a first-place finish in the 1000 yard freestyle (9:52.71), while teammate Jordan Bickhart came in second at 9:55.70. Paulson also recorded second place in the 500 yard freestyle, tipping the finish line at 4:52.30.
Kyle Grant (Winnetka, Ill.) also registered a victory in the afternoon meet as he swam to first place in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 1:55.26. Grant touched the wall third in the 100 yard backstroke, finishing in 53.21.
Senior Scott Thiede (Bethesda, Md.) had a strong performance versus William and Mary, notching a second-place finish in the 100 yard freestyle (47.22) and two third-place finishes in the 200 yard freestyle (1:43.86) and the 500 yard freestyle (4:52.48).
Ben Smith (Sudbury, Mass.) had a pair of top finishes in the 200 yard butterfly where he placed second (1:55.97) and the 100 yard butterfly where he finished third (52.46). Teammate Jason Moyer (Coopersburg, Pa.) earned a top finish in the 50 yard freestyle coming in third at 22.28.
Villanova will head to Rutgers next weekend to take on conference rivals Georgetown and Seton Hall in hopes to snag a win before the BIG EAST Championships.
