VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova swimming & diving teams return to the pool for the first time in 2014 with an away meet against NC State in Raleigh, N.C., Friday afternoon.

The Wildcats last competed in the Big Al Open from Dec. 6-8 in Princeton, N.J. The women's team placed fifth with 281 team points as Villanova competed in the annual event against Princeton, Yale, Dartmouth, Brown, Rider and Columbia.

Freshman Emily Mayo finished with top five finishes three individual events with a third-place finish in the 500 freestyle (4:51.71), and fifth-place finishes in the 200 freestyle (1:50.74) and 1650 freestyle (16:55.90). Mayo and classmates Mary Snyder, Kristin Haufler and Erin Merkle finished third in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 7:28.02.

The men's squad placed sixth at the Big Al Open with 147 team points. Jason Moyer, Chris Tamanini, Kyle Grant and Mike Rodriguez took ninth in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:25.66.

The Wolfpack teams competed against Georgia on Jan. 4. The 10-ranked Bulldog men defeated NC State, 156-142, while the women fell, 186-113, to the reigning NCAA Champion Georgia.
